Cocaine has long been used as a stimulant; the leaves of the coca plant where the drug is extracted from has been traditionally chewed by members of some cultures to experience a jolt of energy. In the 19th century, an enterprising chemist found a way to combine cocaine extract with hydrochloric acid to create cocaine hydrochloride, a white powdery substance that is readily consumable.

A lot of people have the misconception that the use of marijuana cannot cause addiction as it is a harmless drug that simply makes one feel good. In actuality, the continuous use, as well as misuse of this substance, can cause addiction in the same way that other drugs can.

One of the most severe drug problems is a heroin addiction. Heroin can have such a devastating effect on the body and an untreated heroin addiction can cause financial ruin, destroy personal relationships, cause long term health problems and even death. It is said that when a person becomes a heroin addict, it will only either lead to jail or death, neither scenario being a good thing.

No other drug has compared to the disaster that is meth addiction. It is a type of recreational drug that has destroyed millions of lives and is still a rising problem in the United States. Due to its popularity, it is one of the most popular drugs in the world, just next to marijuana and heroin. Because of its many temporary benefits, a lot of addicts disregard the fact that use of crystal meth (or ice) is very dangerous to the human mind and body.
